In dynasty fantasy football every week comes something new. This week is no different, let’s take some time to review some news and the impact it had on dynasty player value.
Christine Michael gets first-team reps
It’s only OTAs but to know that Michael is at the top of the pecking order right now with Thomas Rawls out is intriguing. It seems strange to me that Rawls is taking so long to recover from an ankle injury that did not require surgery, it must have been a very bad injury indeed. Anyway, if Rawls isn’t ready for week 1, I don’t doubt that Michael would be first in line for reps as there is no way that Seattle would start the year with a rookie running back. Once Rawls is ready to go though, it’s also hard to believe Michael would keep him off the field. Take it for what it’s worth.
Todd Bowls confirms Jace Amaro is on the bubble
A metric darling coming out of college, Amaro has been too injured early in his career to put it all together. That said, if Amaro is dumped by the Jets my guess is that he’ll pick up elsewhere and if that elsewhere is a place they use receiving TEs more than NYJ, he could have potential to rebound. I would keep him as a buy-low if things don’t work out in NY.
Tony Romo believes he could play five more years
I’ll believe that more if he makes it through a full 16 games this year. If he doesn’t, it’s hard to believe he’ll play a fantasy relevant role until he’s 41. It’s more likely he has another 2 solid fantasy years in him and that’s about it.
Devante Parker could see snaps in the slot
This doesn’t mean he will be a slot WR, it’s an indication that Adam Gase plans to move him around in order to find mismatches and to confuse the defense. Devante Parker, when healthy, has the ability to be an elite WR1 and with Gase on board and Tannehill continuing to be groomed, there is opportunity for great fantasy results here. Parker will most likely be the focal point of the passing game with Jarvis Landry also being effective but getting a few less targets than last year.
CJ Spiller participates in OTAs
It’s hard to know if Spiller will be fantasy relevant this year after that was expected but did not materialize last year. That said, it’s obvious his injury last year was worse than let on and it affected his play. With a full off-season to continue to learn the offense and get reps, it’s possible Spiller will meet expectations this year. As long as those expectations are low and you don’t overpay for him.
Ameer Abdullah rehabbing shoulder surgery
He will miss the rest of the off-season program but should be ready for training camp. This does provide Zach Zenner and others more reps during June and July, though it’s hard to see it being dynasty relevant if he comes back for training camp. It’s worth monitoring this situation though, as Abdullah is small and if he ends up being injury prone it could submarine his dynasty value.
Tyler Eifert may miss games following ankle surgery
Eifert underwent the surgery to repair a loose ligament on the side of his foot and will be out for an extended time. It’s hard to see how he Eifert will be relevant this season if he comes back mid-year. This leaves an opportunity to step up for Tyler Kroft although it’s hard to see him being fantasy relevant either, so it’s a situation probably best avoided.
