Here we are again to keep you up with all of the news that impacted dynasty football this week. June begins OTAs for every team and injuries start to make an impact as players get bumped and bruised out there. Also, injuries from last season that are lingering could impact a players value if they are taking longer than expected. Here’s some news to be aware of in both IDP and regular dynasty:
Dolphins want Kenny Stills more involved
With all of the attention Devante Parker and Jarvis Landry get, plus the shiny new toy that is Leonte Carroo, most people have forgotten about Kenny Stills. He didn’t have a great season last year, targeted only 63 times, but that was under a different offensive regime and I believe Adam Gase when he says he wants Stills to be more involved. Stills provides the deep speed needed to open up Gase’s offense and he will find ways to make Stills’ skills work for the team. 80-100 targets isn’t out of the question and with his gaudy 15 yard per reception it would put him in the WR2/3 area when he was not considered a starter quality WR last season.
Wendall Smallwood the “key” to Eagles RB Corp
CSN Philly’s Dave Zangaro mentioned this when discussing the Eagles seemingly thin RB corp. Ryan Matthews is the obvious starter as the season opens but he’s 29 in October and injury prone. Darren Sproles is 33 now and is really only a third down and gadget player for another season. That leaves Smallwood and Kenjon Barner as quality depth on the roster. From a dynasty perspective, Smallwood could carve out a role this year and given injuries could end up starting by the end of the year. That said, he’s not a transformational RB and it’s quite possible he’s drafted over next year if this RB corp falls apart in 2016.
Mike Evans and Jameis Winston spend off season together
This is music to Evans and Winston fans and puts Evans in position to have a monster year 3. When you have a “bad” year and still account for 1,200 yards receiving, there is really nothing stopping you from succeeding except yourself. Evans seems to be doing all the right things this off season and expect it to pay off on the field next year. Winston, for that matter, is doing the same.
Seahawks using Tre Madden at Fullback
This is just a note to recognize that if you’re drafting Tre Madden late…don’t!
Alshon Jeffery unlikely to get long-term deal
The Chicago Tribune makes this comment as contract talks have not progressed and some are concerned with Jeffery’s previous injury and conditioning issues. From a dynasty perspective, this puts him squarely in sell mode as there is risk depending on where he goes after this season, if that is indeed what happens. If you can get top dollar for him, take it. Otherwise, you’ll have to bear through the uncertainty and hope he lands in a good situation.
Kamalei Correa seeing time at ILB
It’s an interesting IDP note as 3-4 outside linebackers typically are not great fantasy producers, but if Correa plays inside or both in and out, he could have sneaky LB3 value. From a dynasty perspective, keep an eye on this situation as training camp evolves.
Mularkey wants more than flashes from DGB
This is a sign that Green-Beckham is still very raw and while he has the talent to put it all together, he is also more risky than your average WR1 candidate. In dynasty, you’ll just have to sit on him unless you get good value in return, but it’s interesting to note that during the 2016 off season he’s still not put it all together.
De’Vondre Campbell working with the ones
Campbell is one of the rookie LBs taken by Atlanta, Deion Jones being the other. If Jones and Campbell both with starting jobs at MLB and WLB respectively, they will both be IDP rookie draft pick candidates. Jones would be a third round candidate in the high volume MLB role, Campbell a fourth round candidate at WLB.
