Defensive Tackles are the Rodney Dangerfield of IDP leagues…they get no respect! If your league uses a DL designation then most DTs are virtually worthless as they don’t rack up near as many stats as their DE brethren. If your league designates separate positions for DT and DE then DTs become a bit more important and having a top 3 DT can actually make a difference.
With this in mind, I submit to you our Defensive Tackle tiers for 2016.
Aaron Donald – He’s quite simply in a league of his own.
Kawann Short – Drafted after his fellow DT Star Lotulelei but much better in fantasy due to him being the 3-tech DT
Geno Atkins – Dominant for a long time
Ndamukong Suh – Going to improve in second season in Miami
Fletcher Cox – Moves from DE in 3-4 to DT in 4-3 in Philly
Sheldon Rankins – Rookie moves into perfect situation in NO. 3-Tech starter in rookie year.
Linval Joseph – Had his first great year last season, can he repeat?
Gerald McCoy – Will move to 3-tech this season and could be even better than tier 3 if that works for him.
Marcell Dareus – Consistent performer
Dontari Poe – Young and developing
Ian Williams – NT that was in top 10 for DTs last year, that doesn’t happen often
Brandon Williams – NT in Baltimore but great fantasy stats anyway
Johnathan Hankins – Young and developing for Giants but hasn’t reached elite yet
Damon Harrison – Consistent mid-range performer in Jets 3-4
Clinton McDonald – Stats may go down if he’s asked to take on double-teams to free up Gerald McCoy
Tyrone Crawford – Does well in this defense but not an elite player
Sen’Derrick Marks – Elite before his injury but may not have it left in him.
